Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, and Mamelodi Sundowns are left out as Mbanjwa’s agent leans towards prioritizing a transfer to Portugal over a local move.

The fame of the Usuthu star keeps growing, with an overseas club closely monitoring his advancement.

What’s The Story?

This season marks Mlondi Mbanjwa’s international breakthrough, debuting for Bafana Bafana against Andorra in a March friendly.

At just 25, he’s become one of AmaZulu’s standout players, sparking overseas interest.

Notably, this is Mbanjwa’s first Premier Soccer League season, yet his agent has confirmed keen attention from a Portuguese club.

Ngubane’s Remarks

“You people have sources all over but to be honest I can’t say it’s true or it’s false.” Ngubane told iDiski Times.

“But as someone who represents a player, when a player gets a national team call-up you reach out to different people to come have a look at the player. “That’s my job as a player representative and to market him,” the agent added.

“After he received a national team call-up I spoke to some people overseas to come have a look at him and see if there might be something they like in him. “I mean every player has a dream to play for their national team and to play abroad,” he continued.

“So for me it was important to get in touch with people overseas. Yes, I did reach out to people in Portugal to come have a look at him”.

“Yes, and they have watched him so we are just waiting to hear what they have to say or how they want to move forward because the player is still contracted to AmaZulu,” the intermediary said.

“He has a long-term contract at that. So if there is interest I’ll take them directly to the club chairman and if he decides to continue they will make an offer to the chairman”.

“But to be honest I want greener pastures overseas for the player. So yes I have been in contact with people in Portugal,” he concluded.

The Broader Outlook

While traditional powerhouses like Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, and Mamelodi Sundowns haven’t shown interest in Mbanjwa, the player has revealed a fondness for Sundowns, despite his childhood allegiance to Amakhosi.

Should Masandawana make a move for Mbanjwa, his affection for the club might sway his decision, making him open to joining the Brazilians.

What’s In Store For Mbanjwa?

Usuthu have been eliminated from the Nedbank Cup by Orlando Pirates, leaving the KwaZulu-Natal side solely focused on the PSL.

With this, Mbanjwa now has seven upcoming games to further impress Bafana coach Hugo Broos in preparation for the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers in June.
