Matsatsantsa fought hard to clinch a point in their 1-1 draw against Rise and Shine in Premier Soccer League action on Wednesday.
What Occurred?
In the early stages, Polokwane mounted significant pressure on SuperSport, who have been struggling to secure victories since the league resumed.
Matsatsantsa’s situation worsened when goalkeeper Ricardo Goss received a straight red card in the 29th minute for a challenge on Rise and Shine’s Simon Ramabu.
Despite being reduced to 10 men, SuperSport remained resilient and entered halftime with the score still 0-0.
However, Rise and Shine changed the momentum when Oswin Appollis scored in the 56th minute, adding to SuperSport’s challenges. Yet, their lead was short-lived as substitute Aphiwe Baliti provided an excellent cross, finding Etiosa Ighodaro, who headed in the equalizer for SuperSport.
At the final whistle, the score remained 1-1, with SuperSport in fifth place on the PSL table, while Polokwane occupied the 11th position.
The Most Valuable Player
Oswin Appollis of Polokwane City exhibited an exceptional performance, making a significant contribution to his team by scoring a goal.
The 22-year-old’s consistent improvement has firmly established him as a vital player for Rise and Shine this season.
The Major Setback
Matsatsantsa suffered a significant setback as goalkeeper Ricardo Goss inadvertently put his team in a tough spot, receiving a red card early in the first half for a professional foul on Ramabu.
This compelled coach Gavin Hunt to make a difficult call, substituting prolific striker Bradley Grobler to introduce Washington Arubi as a replacement goalkeeper.
