Sports Tips exists to help people make better decisions about the sports they play, watch and follow: which gear to buy, how to plan a football trip, and how to get more out of fantasy sports. This page explains how we research, write, check and update our guides, and how we keep our advertising separate from our editorial choices. We want you to know exactly what you are reading and why you can trust it.
Our principles at a glance
- Useful first. Every guide should answer a real question clearly, without padding.
- Accurate and sourced. We rely on official rules, governing bodies and primary sources wherever they exist.
- Honest about how we know. We never claim hands-on testing we have not done.
- Independent. Advertisers and partners do not influence what we write or recommend.
- Open to correction. If we get something wrong, we fix it and say so.
What we cover
- Gear and guides: buying guides, rules explainers and gear trends for pickleball and golf.
- Soccer travel: practical guidance for fans attending matches, including tickets, transport, stadiums and trip planning.
- Fantasy sports: beginner guides, scoring explainers, strategy frameworks and glossaries for Fantasy Premier League and fantasy football.
- Football archive: older news, profiles, stadium guides and match content from earlier years. See “Our archive” below.
How we research and write our guides
- Start with the reader’s question. We decide what to cover by what people are trying to figure out, not by what is easy to publish.
- Go to the primary source. For rules and standards, we use the governing body, such as USA Pickleball, the USGA and The R&A. For travel requirements, we use official government and transport sites. For fantasy games, we use the official game rules.
- Cross-check. Where official sources are unclear or silent, we compare reputable independent sources, and we note any disagreement rather than hide it.
- Write in plain language. We explain terms, show worked examples where they help, and say what we do not know.
- Review before publishing. Each guide is read for accuracy, clarity and usefulness by a human editor before it goes live.
How we approach gear recommendations
When we compare or recommend equipment, we judge it against criteria that matter to the player:
- fit for the player’s skill level and style of play;
- published specifications, such as weight, materials, size and construction;
- whether it meets the relevant rules and approved equipment lists;
- value for money and durability, drawing on broad owner feedback;
- availability and return policies where they affect the buying decision.
Our testing standard. Unless an article explicitly says we tested a product and explains how, our gear guides are research-based. They explain how to choose, using official rules and published specifications, and they are not lab results or hands-on reviews. When we do test something ourselves, we will say what we tested, for how long and under what conditions.
Advertising, partnerships and independence
Sports Tips is funded by advertising. Ads are served by Google and by advertising partners, and they are clearly separate from our editorial content. Advertisers do not see articles before publication, cannot pay for coverage and have no say in what we recommend.
For details on how advertising technology uses cookies, see our Cookie Policy.
Images and illustrations
We use original photographs, licensed images and illustrations. Diagrams and illustrations are there to explain a concept, such as how paddle shapes differ, not to show a specific product we tested. We do not use images to imply an endorsement, a partnership or hands-on experience that does not exist.
Keeping information current
Rules, prices, entry requirements and game formats change. We show a “Last updated” date on our guides and revisit time-sensitive topics, such as fantasy game rules and travel requirements, whenever the underlying rules change and at regular intervals. We always recommend confirming the latest details with the official source before you buy, book or play. We do not provide legal, immigration, financial or medical advice.
Our archive
Sports Tips has published football news, lineups, previews and profiles since 2024. Articles from earlier years reflect the information available when they were written and may be out of date. We are reviewing the archive, and we update, consolidate or retire articles that are inaccurate, thin or no longer useful.
Corrections and feedback
We aim to be right, and when we are not, we want to know. If you spot an error, an out-of-date detail or something unclear, please email with the article link and what you believe needs changing. We will review it promptly. When we make a significant correction, we update the article and add a note describing what changed. Corrections are not hidden.
