The PSL weekend action brought plenty of drama on Saturday as two of the league’s prominent teams, Urban Warriors and Matsatsantsa, suffered unexpected defeats in the South African top-flight.

Golden Arrows hosted Royal AM at the Mpumalanga Stadium in Durban on Saturday afternoon, while Sekhukhune United went up against Cape Town Spurs, a team desperately fighting to avoid relegation.

Meanwhile, SuperSport United clashed with Chippa United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday night, adding to the excitement and intrigue in the PSL.

The action doesn’t stop there. On Sunday, Polokwane City will take on Cape Town City in Polokwane, while TS Galaxy will host the in-form Stellenbosch at the Mbombela Stadium, rounding off a thrilling weekend of PSL football.

SUPERSPORT UNITED 0-2 CHIPPA UNITED

SuperSport United’s hopes of qualifying for the 2024/25 Caf Champions League took a significant hit following a 2-0 defeat to Chippa United.

Goals from Sinoxolo Kwayiba and Eva Nga sealed the win for Chippa, leaving SuperSport United to contend with a 14th consecutive match—across all competitions—without a win in regulation time.

The loss at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday drops Gavin Hunt’s team to fifth place in the PSL standings, with 35 points from 24 games. This leaves them five points behind both Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch, who currently hold the second and third spots, respectively.

SEKHUKHUNE UNITED 1-0 CAPE TOWN SPURS

Babina Noko capitalized on their home advantage, edging out the Urban Warriors with a 1-0 victory.

The match remained goalless at halftime, but just seven minutes into the second half, Asekho Tiwani scored his first goal in Sekhukhune United’s colors, breaking the deadlock.

Tiwani’s goal proved decisive, securing all three points for Lehlohonolo Seema’s side.

Despite the win, Sekhukhune United stay in fourth place. Cape Town Spurs, with only 12 points and six matches left in the season, remain in 16th position, facing a tough battle to avoid relegation.

GOLDEN ARROWS 1-1 ROYAL AM

Golden Arrows and Royal AM battled to a 1-1 draw at the Mpumalanga Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Royal AM’s midfielder Zukile Mkhize handed Golden Arrows an early lead by scoring an own goal in the 15th minute, giving the hosts a head start.

Steve Komphela’s side went into halftime leading 1-0 but failed to increase their advantage, while Royal AM also couldn’t find the net.

Early in the second half, Khulekani Shezi equalized for Thwihli Thwahla within the first seven minutes. Despite dominating much of the second half, John Maduka’s team couldn’t convert their chances into goals.

The draw sees Golden Arrows move up to eighth place, leapfrogging Kaizer Chiefs, who now sit in ninth on the PSL table.

Royal AM’s point takes them from 13th to 12th place in the league standings, providing some relief in their battle against relegation.
