Did Percy Tau Had a Falling Out with Al Ahly Coach Koller? Former Egypt International Makes Damning Claims Amid Cairo Exit Rumors

The South African international has been absent from his club’s lineup for the past four matches, reportedly due to ongoing fitness concerns.

What’s the Situation?

Reda Abdel Aal, a former Egypt international, has made startling assertions that Percy Tau and Al Ahly coach Marcel Koller are at odds.

This revelation follows Tau’s absence from Al Ahly’s last four matches. He remained on the bench during the Caf Champions League quarter-final second leg against Simba SC and was subsequently left out entirely from Egyptian Premier League matches against ENPPI and ZED, as well as the Cairo Derby clash with Zamalek on Monday.

Abdel Aal’s Remarks

“What I learned is that Percy Tau, the star of the Al Ahly team, does not suffer from any injury and was able to participate in the summit match against the Zamalek club,” Abdel Aal said on Egyptian television show Primo as per KickOff.

“Tau is upset with Koller because of what happened with the coach of Al Ahly team in the match against Simba in Tanzania when the player was warming up to participate in the match, but Koller brought in another player instead of him.”

The Broader Picture

Abdel Aal’s assertions emerge amidst uncertainty surrounding Tau’s future at Al Ahly, especially as his contract is set to expire on June 30.

Since August 2021, he has been part of the Cairo giants, opting to leave his European club career and return to Africa.

As June approaches rapidly, there’s been no indication of Al Ahly presenting a new contract offer.

What’s Ahead for Tau?

Al Ahly travels to face TP Mazembe for Saturday’s Caf Champions League semi-final first-leg match, and it remains to be seen if the Bafana Bafana star will be included in the lineup.

Following a challenging 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, Tau would be eager to secure consistent playing time in preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers looming in June.
