Esperance defeated the Brazilian team 1-0 in the first leg of the Caf Champions League semi-final held on Saturday night.

The game began with high energy as both teams created scoring opportunities early on.

As play continued and the field opened up, the home team struck first. In the 41st minute, Yan Sasse took advantage of a rebound after goalkeeper Ronwen Williams deflected his initial chip, putting Esperance ahead 1-0. The Tunisian side maintained their lead heading into halftime.

In the second half, Sundowns intensified their efforts to find an equalizer, but they couldn’t convert their chances into goals.

As the match approached its end, Esperance packed their defense as the Brazilians mounted a series of attacks. However, the score remained unchanged at the final whistle, with Esperance taking a 1-0 win into the second leg in Tshwane on April 26th.

Although Sundowns created scoring chances in Tunisia, they failed to find the back of the net, struggling with accuracy and precision in the final third.

The Brazilians will head back to South Africa to prepare for their Premier Soccer League match against Sekhukhune United on Tuesday, April 23rd.

 

Afterward, they will turn their attention to the second leg of the Caf Champions League semi-final, hosting Esperance on Friday, April 26th.
